Client's Requirement - Xmas Restaurant Portal

The client wanted a PHP development partner to translate the design available with them and integrate the website to handle data management functions. Julbord refers to a type of Scandinavian meal served buffet-style with multiple dishes of various foods on a table.

Restaurants sign up to offer visitors their Xmas lunch and dinner delights!

Solution - Simple user interface and Quick Search capabilities

The design was converted to HTML and integrated into the website. The development was done using PHP / MySQL technologies. The front end pages were kept simple and in tune with the warm Christmas design with particular attention paid to selection boxes and their alignments.

The PHP programmers emphasized on making the access easy for visitors to use the site, browse through restaurants, read menus and share information with their family and friends.

A Google equivalent map service (hitta.se) was integrated to enhance the visibility of the restaurants presented on the website.

The site is produced by the method called progressive Enhancement and shall be visited and navigated regardless of browser or technical limitations such as lack of Flash, or if the user has JavaScript turned off.

Integration of sIFR allowed the website to dynamically include web fonts, as the browsing user may or may not have had the specified font installed in their system. sIFR embeds a font in a Flash element that displays the text, preempting the need for a font to have been manually pre-installed on a user's system.

The website development was flagged off by late October 2009 and the client needed to launch the product by mid November to market the website. SEO and automatic XML site map creation techniques were integrated to attract maximum traffic during the window between launch and Xmas.

The restaurant panel was kept simple for restaurateurs to have full control over their restaurant information.
